I got a great question from a young player that I had to answer on my YouTube channel about getting into baseball shape and being baseball ready for next season. If you are a serious player, you understand that it will take a lot of dedication and hard work to be in the best baseball shape you can be. Here are 5 things you should do to make sure you are ready for your next baseball season!

1) Understand the Process

When we’re talking about baseball workouts to be in tip top shape for next season, you must understand the process. Meaning there is not a quick fix. You must put in the hard work and dedication. It is a 5-6 day a week process. Training with intensity and full of energy. If you are just going through the motions or only working 2-3 days a week, you are not reaching your full baseball potential. Commit to work hard!

2) Set Goals

You need to set goals so that you know what you are trying to achieve. If you’ve been subscribed to my YouTube channel for some time you know that SMART goals are what I preach (if you’re not subbed, click the button above so I can help you be a better player!). SMART is an acronym for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely. So lay out what you want to achieve and make sure your goals answer all of the questions above.

3) Reverse Engineer a Plan

Once you have your goals in place you’re going to need a plan to achieve them. Just coming up with what you want won’t help you get there. Come up with a plan by counting the days you have to your next season and then start creating a daily action plan starting with the day before the season and working backwards to the current date. This way you know exactly what you need to do everyday to be in the best shape for your next season. Hold yourself accountable and get it done!

4) Eat Right

Eating right is so important even more so than your baseball workouts. You can work your butt off in the gym but if you’re eating bad, you’re not going to maximize your success. Eating gives you energy. Eating helps you recover. You are what you put into your body. Don’t be a cheeseburger, french fries, and some coke! Make good choices every meal to get the best results and maximize your gains!

5) Train Like an Explosive Athlete

I see too many baseball players training the wrong way during their baseball workouts. They are either doing too much body building or aesthetic type workouts and not focusing on exercises that will translate into baseball. Focus on sport specific movements, plyometrics, sprints, and other workouts that focus on speed and explosiveness. Speed is everything in baseball whether you are hitting, throwing, pitching, fielding, and of course running. Train hard…but also train smart!
